Skelton Releases Office Statistics

SASKATOON – Carol Skelton, Member of Parliament for Saskatoon-Rosetown-Biggar has released the statistics for her constituency office activities for 2005.

Carol Skelton primarily provides constituents with service at her Saskatoon constituency office.  As well, satellite offices in Rosetown and Biggar offer convenient service to rural residents several days a week.

During 2005, 8240 telephone inquiries were received (average 35 per day) and 6657 calls were made.  2069 people walked into one of the constituency offices for assistance.  Both the telephone calls and visitors resulted in 3314 mailings of additional information.  320 resulted in meetings with the constituent and the opening of a case file for further intervention by the MP (this total does not include ‘repeat clients’).  These cases generated another 969 letters to government Ministers, departments and constituents.

1811 certificates were generated for new citizens, graduates, anniversaries, notable birthdays and special events.  202 people came by to pick up complimentary Canada flag pins.

Over 27,000 direct mailings were sent to constituents on a number of subjects including Senate reform, the gun registry, same-sex marriages, child pornography, health

issues, the environment and other issues of significance.

Numerous petitions on more than a dozen subjects were submitted for certification to the Clerk and then submitted on the floor of the House of Commons.

In addition to the 232,000 MP mailings (quarterly), 26 issue-specific brochures were sent with attached surveys.  132,600 of these brochures were distributed with a 2.2% return rate.  The industry average for this type of survey is a 1% return rate.  These documents are available on her website.

There were 3111 personalized emails sent to constituents and thousands more were distributed to those subscribed to the electronic distribution list.

The website (www.carolskelton.ca) contains all community publications/brochures, press releases, weekly columns (52 per year) and pictures from most public events.  It now has 1005 pages and 1927 images.  Site traffic continues to increase dramatically and currently receives an average of 2135 unique visits per month.

“It has been an honour and a pleasure serving the constituents of Saskatoon-Rosetown-Biggar, and without the dedication and loyalty of my staff, none of this would be possible.  I also want to thank my staff for attending over 40 events on my behalf when Parliamentary duties kept me in Ottawa,” concluded Carol Skelton.
